Carolyn graduated with distinction in 2007 from the Veterinary Technician Program at Georgian College in Orillia, Ontario. She obtained her registration with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) shortly after graduating and has been a member in good standing ever since. Carolyn has done it all within the vet med field – she started off in emergency medicine before finding her niche within the referral setting. Although there are too many referral specialties to list, her particular passion is for both Ophthalmology and Anesthesia.
She has spent several years working alongside many board certified anesthesiologists at the University of Guelph – Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). The diverse caseload there allowed her to develop a specialized skill set and to provide daily hands-on instruction to future veterinarians. Although this career path was rewarding, Carolyn always envisioned living out West, so when an opportunity came up she pursued it all the way to Vancouver Island!
Carolyn is enjoying her newest career challenge with Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital (ELVH) as our head veterinary technician – a role that allows her to make the most of her technical expertise as well as her commitment to providing strong mentorship to her colleagues. When not in the clinic, you can find Carolyn adventuring in the outdoors with her husband David and two daughters Harper and Harlow. She also shares her home with her Rhodesian Ridgeback Atlas, her rescued Lab-X Athena, and her newest addition, a rescue kitty named Blizzard.
