Heather

Born and raised right here in Victoria, growing up Heather shared her home with many dogs and rabbits. These fur-friends sparked a love for companion animals that never really went out. Even though she started her career in a (human) doctor’s office as a Medical Office Assistant, she decided to make a change to veterinary medicine and has never looked back! Heather has been caring for animals as a veterinary assistant since 2019, and is currently working to complete her veterinary technician training through Thompson Rivers University.

Of all the fascinating aspects of companion animal care, Heather is particularly interested in canine behaviour. As mum to a reactive dog herself, she has seen how much his quality of life has improved with the right combination of anti-anxiety medications and supportive training. She knows first-hand how difficult it can be to help dogs like hers, and she loves being able to help patients and clients by sharing her knowledge. Heather also volunteers for Vets for Pets, a Victoria-based organization that provides veterinary care free of charge to low-income and unhoused folks for their fur-family.

Calling Colwood home with her partner and their lab-poodle mix (the handsome Wren!), Heather considers herself a bit of an introvert. In her spare time, she likes to find beautiful places to explore with her pup – here in Victoria, that’s certainly not a difficult task! When not roaming with Wren, Heather can be found at home relaxing or spending time with her extended family, which includes three nephews and a niece.
