Dr. Petra Juzwishin Warnock’s life has been dedicated to the care and pursuit of knowledge of animals. Studying veterinary medicine in Australia, Petra undertook significant additional study and care of native wildlife including possums, bats, kangaroos, koalas, reptiles, and a plethora of birds. She culminated her studies by doing a rotation at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital in Queensland. Petra’s areas of interest include dental health, soft tissue surgery, exotic, and geriatric medicine. She has done extensive veterinary volunteer work with wildlife in Canada, the US and Australia. Petra's immediate family is comprised of her husband Randall; three sons, Grayson, Aidan, and Hudson; two dogs, Sampiko and Sophie; and their cat Mufasa. Prior to coming to ELVH, Petra was the medical director of an emergency veterinary hospital in Edmonton. Upon arriving back to Victoria where she grew up, Petra is eager to be practicing in a family owned, community minded practice. When not caring for animals, Petra enjoys spending time with family and friends, and a wide range of outdoor activities.

We take care to make sure your "Fido" has a positive experience at the vet. In some cases this may include offering to do an examination outside in our garden or being fed yummy treats!

As most cat owners know, cats are NOT just small dogs! We are sensitive to the needs of felines. We use calm, kind, low stress handling techniques with our feline friends. We have separate wards for cats and dogs staying in hospital to minimize stress and we use special pheromone diffusers in our exam rooms to create a calming atmosphere.

Other Furred & Feathered Friends

Rabbits, ferrets, rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas degus and birds all have very different and specific needs, care and husbandry. We are experienced in treating even the smallest members of your family!

Frequent Questions

Do I Need an Appointment?

A:We strongly encourage booking ahead for an appointment. However, we understand that sometimes a case may arise where you end up stopping in without an appointment. We will always do our best to facilitate seeing your pet. This may include a wait to see the veterinarian or offering a drop off appointment for your pet.

What Animals Do We See?

A:We treat dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, rodents, ferrets and other small pets.

Do We Require Vaccine History or Medical Records?

A:It is very helpful for us to have any medical history for your pet and we would be happy to contact your previous veterinary hospital for you to have the records sent to us. We strongly recommend a variety of vaccines for your pet's health but it is not a requirement to have them done. We would be happy to discuss which vaccines your pet would benefit from.

What Pet Foods Do We Have in Stock?

A:We carry diets from Royal Canin Medi-Cal, Hill's Pet Nutrition, Purina Pro Plan, and Rayne Vet. If your pet requires a particular diet that we do not have on our shelves you may be able to find it on our online Vet Store, or we can have it specially ordered for you.

Do I Need to Bring my Animal in a Carrier?

A:We do have a hospital policy to have all animals brought either in a carrier or on a leash. This is simply for the safety of your animal.

What Forms of Payment Do We Accept?

A:We accept Visa, Mastercard, Interac, and Cash. We do not accept American Express or personal cheques.

Do We Offer Home Visits?

A:Yes, with a little bit of extra planning we are able to accommodate house call visits.
